As he is pursued by authorities, Joey slowly learns the ways of the Island, and how to survive it.

Set in the same world as that in An Island in the Pit, Mama's Jewels is a piece of literature mentioned in the novel trilogy. The story takes place during the Island's monarchical period, and follows the experiences of a young girl whose mother is the regal jeweller. When her mother is taken away, details of the girl's origins begin to unravel. But does any of this matter to her?
